Ken Turner - Alternative Art Poster #67: “RICK AND MORTY IN A VAT OF ACID”

Last week's Rick and Morty "The Vat of Acid Episode" was the show at its best.

Thought a simple design of them both inside a vat of episode would encapsulate the episode.

Ken Turner - Alternative Art Poster #66: “FRANKENWEENIE”

After previously designing a couple of really colorful posters I needed do something that felt the complete opposite of shiny, bright and cheerful.

I did design a Frankenweenie poster before but something sparked me to do another one that was more character filled.

Ken Turner - Alternative Art Poster #65: “PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE”

I wanted to do this poster to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Tim Burton's cult classic Pee-wee's Big Adventure.

Fun Fact: Paul Reubens hired Tim Burton (then 26-year-old) to direct Pee-wee's Big Adventure after seeing his short films Vincent and Frankenweenie.

I took inspiration for this style of design from the artist Joey Chou whose mural work I especially enjoy.

Ken Turner - Alternative Art Poster #64: “BIRDS OF PREY”

Its been awhile since my last poster so I wanted to try get back into the swing of things with this quick one.  I wanted to try a very stylized design with a brush stroke texture approach for my Birds of Prey poster.  I think this will be nice companion piece to poster #37: Forces of Destiny for Star Wars.

Pee Wee's Playhouse Loot Box - Tee Shirt Design

Happy Halloween!!! 🎃 I thought I’d share my work from project that never saw that light of day. It was for a line of subscription boxes for the Pee Wee brand. I met this guy at CTN 2017 and he liked my work and asked if I was interested in doing some designs for this project and I of course said yes. Eventually in early 2018 I finished the first image you see above and to “big top” it all off I was able to get notes from Paul Reubens himself and eventually get to speak with him on the phone and go over the design. This was for a tee shirt that would be in the subscription boxes amongst other Pee Wee type products. All in all it was a fun “big adventure” to be a part of but I didn’t get paid for it. This is super rare but it has happened in the past. Today being Halloween felt like the most appropriate day to share these...now it’s time for a “big holiday”...Enjoy.

Ken Turner - Alternative Art Poster #63: “AMALGAM - SPIDER-BOY: FAR FROM REALITY”

Some back history for those who don't know about Amalgam - via Wikipedia: Amalgam Comics was a publishing imprint shared by DC Comics and Marvel Comics, in which the two comic book publishers merged their characters into new ones (e.g., DC Comics' the Batman and Marvel Comics' Wolverine became the Amalgam character the Dark Claw).

I loved the series and I own all of them.  I've been wanting to create a poster based off these characters.  Here is what I hope is the first of many.

I thought doing one based off the latest Spider-man film "Far from Home" with Spider-boy (An amalgamation of DC's Superboy and Marvel's Spider-Man) would bring a new twist to it and make it modern.

Two villains I came with for this poster are:

The main villain is a mix of Marvel's Mysterio and DC's Mister Mxyzptlk to become Mister Mxyz-terio.  An impish actor from Earth 616, Mister Mxyz-terio possesses limitless mind-bending powers, which he often uses to pose as a hero to get revenge on Spider-boy for his own amusement.

A side villain is a mix of Marvel's Cyclone and DC's Metallo to become Metalone.  An cyborg who uses kryptonite to generate from his body high velocity tornado-like winds and create lightning strikes.

Ken Turner - Alternative Art Poster #62: “HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN”

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban has always been my favourite in the franchise.
Its dark, funny, poignant and it has pumpkins.

Its been on my list of films to make a poster from for a long time, and today I’m premiering my new poster online.

Ken Turner - Alternative Art Poster #61: “JOKER”

I'm really looking forward to Joaquin Phoenix's JOKER movie.  It feels like it could be dropped into Nolan's Batman world and it wouldn't miss a beat.  I'm hoing it does well and more feels like it will be made.

With that said, I got hyped up to make my own JOKER alternative poster with 2 variants.

Ken Turner - Alternative Art Poster #59: “SESAME STREET FIGHTER”

The most friendliest of preschool characters mashed together with one of the most popular violent video games.

I came up with this idea while in Montreal and from what I'm told, by a random hipster on the street, that's where some of the greatest ideas were born. So there you go.
