"Henry: The Heart Boy" Short Film - Production Update #3

So in adapting the illustrated story book to a short film,  I wanted to retain the major beats of the story, (btw I'll try not to mention or show any spoilers in these HTHB posts)...but while expanding certain parts to make the story a bit fuller and richer.
I tried to have as many gags in there as they are places to be scared, or grossed out or  cry.  Early 2012 is when I finished a first pass at the story reel.  It went through many revisions and changes but luckily the blueprint was all there in the book so it made it a bit easier.  It was definitely a major benefit in making this film.
In late 2012, I continued on the story reel after a brief hiatus to make the web-series Snowboy & Crow,  It was a good to have that kind of break as I was able to see it with fresh eyes.
I feel like the making of a story reel should be a very organic process and still allowing oneself to make big or small changes throughout production is very important.
By October 2012, Henry went into full production and is on schedule to be released in 2013.
Seen above and below are concept art pieces for the book and film.
In the next post I'll share a couple pages from the book.

"Henry: The Heart Boy" Short Film - Production Update #2

The idea for my next animated short film was based on a character I created in college.  It was basically about a boy who wears his heart on his sleeve. (As seen in the previous post's illustration) The plan was create an illustrated story book first with a short film to follow right after.  The book was published in August 2011 by Freak Show Studios.  It was entitled "Henry: The Heart Boy" and consisted of 52 pages with full color illustrations and Dr. Suess-esque rhyming couplets.

The cover can be seen below.

I took the book to many conventions where it was well received and even got a lot of people saying that it should made into an animated short film.

*In the next post I'll talk about adapting the book into a film.

"Henry: The Heart Boy" Short Film - Production Update #1

So this week moving forward I thought I'd start doing regular blog updates for those who like to keep up on news from the production of the new animated short film "Henry: The Heart Boy".  I'll try to include as many production photos and artwork as possible.  Henry production is moving along quite nicely.  The HTHB production team is slowly beginning to grow with alot of very talented artists coming together to make "Henry" a reality.  In the new year there will be a teaser trailer,  possibly a clip from the short, hopefully a crowd-funding campaign for those who'd like show their support and get some really cool perks.
